So you've found my CPD blog. That first sentence isn't too helpful: hopefully you know who you are which leaves only two questions.
- Who am I?
- I'm a technical author, training consultant and sometimes university lecturer. This makes me a "professional" who straddles the "traditional/new" boundary, and comes with a host of memberships and responsibilities. One of the biggest responsibilities we all have (although you wouldn't think it to look at some people out there) is to learn and develop continually.
- What is a CPD blog
- Both of the professional bodies I belong to have a CPD requirement (I'm an ITOL Fellow, which covers the training side of life, and an ISTC Member which is the technical communications stuff). Roughly stated I'm meant to do at least a minimum amount of "learning and development" and then reflect on it in a professionally meaningful way (I don't know what the minimum is... I always do more... if you want to do the bare minimum in life become an MP). I also have to be prepared to let my peers from these bodies access my records so that they can check I'm doing the minimum. With all that in mind I decided that it'd be a whole lot easier just to blog my reflections and experiences, if anyone demands to see my records I can send them a link, and who knows the rest of you might find something here to interest you as well.
Remember folks, it's only CPD if we learn from it. Spending days of your life asleep at the back of a random training seminar is pointless... you're better to read a single article, think deeply about it and be able to use what you've just learnt to progress to the next level
